Great show for sure. I grew up listening to this band and have seen them several times. This was by far one of the best concerts I have ever seen in my life. There was a downside though. We had great seats. Floor Level, 11th row in center. My wife and I were so excited. 3 drunks ruined our entire experience. They were fighting, pushing everyone, tyring to start fights all through show. We tried to urge security to escort them out, but they took forever doing it. We missed so much due to the drama. It really messed up what could have been a great night. I hope I get the chance to see them again. What I did see was awesome though.

Posts: 1 Cheap Trick was great! Robin Z was in fine voice! Journey was amazing!!! They played some of my faves like Chain Reaction, Change For The Better, Escape, Ask The Lonely and the greatest hits of course. Arnie sat his mic stand down and it toppled over and there was a big boom in the speakers. It dazed him for a second. I'm sure it was really loud in his ear monitors. He shook his head a couple of times and fidgeted with his ears and came back to sing and the mic jacked up so the roadie ran out with another mic and the show rolled on. What a trooper, what a great guy and an amazing voice. All 8 of us were blown away. Thought I saw Deen praising God on the line from After All These Years that says "I'm proud of all the blessings you have given me" very cool. Deen, Neal, Jon and Ross were on fire as usual. Words cannot describe how freakin awesome these 4 are. Thanks guys for continuing the Journey!!!!!!!! Thanks Arnel for your spirit of humility and for a great show!!!!! Can't wait to hear what the future holds for this band!!!!!!!!!

I went to the concert last night and had a blast. I didn't get to see Journey back in the 80's while I was in high school, so I made up for it last night. Arnel is an amazing singer and a great addition to the band. Journey exceeded my expectations in every way possible. I look forward to many more concerts!

By the way, when those ballads were played, After all..., faithfully, open arms, those couples behind my seat( a handful pairs) were hugging, kissing and dancing. They never stopped showing PDA's all the way thru the end. Love was obviously in the air that night. And the ladies in my row in their 20's never took their seat at all from start to end. Whatever song being played, they didn't care. They kept of rocking even to the tune of the ballad "open arms". How's that ????

I agrree with all above! It was an amzing show. Arnel worked the crowd like he has being doing this all of his life and the vocals were spot on all night...sound was great...and Deen's vocals on Mother - father - sister were equally amazing...
It looks like this band has really found a way to keep the Journey magic without Perry..which is a wonderful thing for us life long fans..

As I mentioned earlier, the show was AWESOME!! This was my 5th Journey show so far, and Arnel keeps getting better and better! He definitely ROCKED IT in Nashville!! He has GREAT interaction with the crowd! He was all over the stage, so that's awesome for the people on the sides. I absolutely love his voice, and his Rocker stage presence!! I love Arnel!

Ross was Ross, funny as always! I do have to mentioned that I loved Ross's hair!! Super funky .... but so COOL!!! Ross had high hairsprayed hair that was slicked on the sides. Loved it!!! Jon looked really good also. Loved hearing him play the Harmonica during a music solo with Neal. Waaay awesome!! Deen Deen Deen! So freaking awesome on the drums as always! When I heard the beginning of MOTHER FATHER, I was so shocked and excited!!! Yippee! It was so hauntingly beautiful as always... siiiiigggh.

Ok ..... NEAL SCHON. .... Omg Omg Omgggggg!!! Words cant express how much I love and admire Neal. He is so AMAZING!! IMO, his music is PERFECTION!!! We did ILAA and were in front row, in front of Neal! I think that watching and hearing him play (in our spot) is pure Heaven. Loved him on every song, of course. But when he started playing (The Journey) REVELATION .... I just about died!!!! SOOOOO AMAZING and beautiful!!!! siiiiigggh... Neal looked the best I had ever seen him! All in black, with matching Leather vest and pants. THE CHAIN. Soooo HOTTTTT!!! Ok, ok .... I just love Neal. Thank you, Neal for letting the Journey continue .... cant wait to see you guys in the Bay Area next!

Loved the beginning, they showed the guys, on the big screen, as they were walking to the stage! So cool to see ... and the crowd went wild!! Hope to see that again. All the songs ROCKED, and the crowd went crazy for the guys! All I can say was this show was FABULOUS!! I'm so glad I went to Nashville to see this show and spend time with my friends!!!

Special SHOUT OUT to Adriana, Bonnie, Larry, Matt, Barb, Janice, and Valerie!!!! HUGS to you all!!!

ROCK ON!!!!

Cheap Trick gave us a very good show, enjoyed them more at this show than I have in my past shows. IMHO, Tom Peterson, a resident of Music City USA, showed more of his personality & even sang. I'm always amazed at the quality of Robin V's voice..he's still got IT.

JOURNEY ROCKED NASHVILLE!!! How fun it was to see the band on the big screen coming down the hallway to enter the stage..kudos to whoever had that idea.

Special SPECIAL thanks to Deen for coming to our ILAA M&G. I'm sure there were other things that you could have been doing with your time but you choose to meet with the fans and you'll never know how much appreciated it was. EVERYONE LOVES YOU DEEN! And, YEAH, Mother Father was back in the set list! You have an amazing voice and play rockin' rollin' drums at the same time...what a talent!

It's a treat to have Neal play the small scale guitar along with Jon on harmonica. Great to hear Revelation, Neal's solo, played as well! Loved hearing all the regulars that have been in the set list from the newest CD, Revelation & would love to hear more of the new tunes.

So good to see all the guys looking healthy and happy! And they all looked great too - Jon in jeans with black shirt and white boots - Ross sporing an updated hairdo with a fun jacket & tennis shoes - Arnel in jeans with a cool black jacket & white tennis shoes w/ black stripes, Deen wth his new spike hairdo, GREAT shirt at the M&G, and looking healthy & happy - Neal in black leather pants & vest..and did I mention he also looks healthy and happy.

Great show guys! Thank you for coming to my hometown and hope to see you here again next year.

This concert was truly amazing! It was by far the best concert I have ever attended.

Cheap Trick was great. I have never been a Cheap Trick fan but I have to say they put on an excellent show.

Journey.....what can I say about them that has not already been said? They were AMAZING! I saw them back in the 80's and I don't recall them having the energy that they had last night. Watching Arnel was such a joy. His voice is wonderful and he is so energetic. The group has definitly found their man.

Deen! AWSOME! I had such good seats for this concert and I was able to see him very well. He is so talented. Not only can he play the drums but he can sing great as well. I loved watching him.

This concert was well worth what I paid for my ticket and I can't wait until they come back to Nashville. I have never enjoyed a concert as much as I did this one. I am 41 year old wife and mother but I felt like I was a teenager again. It was great to see my all time favorite band and have all of those memories brought back to me.

If you ever get the chance to go and see them GO! You won't regret it.

Our seats: 2nd level, 2nd row, first section of seats...BIRDS EYE VIEW!

The show absolutely kicked ass! Arnel sang his ass off, man...we were absolutely blown away...the entire band had such a great energy...sounded as good as ever if not better.

Deen...you're a bad mo fo on those skins, dude!!! Neal, Jonathan & Ross...you guys never cease to amaze me! THANK YOU for continuing to do what you do...the soundtrack of my life has Journey in it almost the entire way! I will continue to be one of your faithful! :-)

Come back to Nashville, we'll always rock out with ya! Arnel...kudos, my brother. Big shoes to fill...and you've done it well and with your own energy and style. You got some pipes, my man...and it's not something that just anyone can walk in and do...so God bless you...and keep on rockin' our asses off!

PS. Smart move touring with Heart, too...my fave! Those chicks can kick it! Gonna see'em tomorrow at the Wildhorse! SWEET!

Peace, love and rock n roll...
Lorie

Hey man -

while your opinion is always appreciated, as all of ours should be.....i guess the question should be really: " what show were YOU attending?"

please read the posts......everyone thought CT did a good job ( your post aside )

and your estimates for the Sommet were way off.....i'm a season ticket holder for the Preds and have seen many concerts there, since it opened in 1995. last night was a very good attendance.....read the other posts please.

my question would be to you.....where were your seats???? that may have made the difference in your perception. I was third row, main floor......could make eye contact w/ the bands....and maybe that made a difference in the sound for you as well.

sorry that you did not enjoy CT....but I agree with you about Journey.....they totally rocked.

alles bestens,

WGS

Loc: Kentucky Ok, a review from someone who has spent more time backstage than in front of it. We chose the ILAA 5* and kept it despite the cancelling of the "official" M&G. Jeff & Morgan (ILAA) were great (although Morgan headed for the bar every time Jeff had to leave and give it up to her - "just water or a soft drink" - she kept it in line). About 45 of us for the ILAA party. Food, lots of beer and wine. Varied from a precoious 3-1/2 year old who knew all the lyrics and will be a hellasious drummmer someday to a 70 or so lady from England. Definitely a cross section of "Generations". Deen made an appearance and did a really nice M&G/photo op. Was enamoured with the kid - signed some drum sticks for him. Also signed his first "protruding right upper body part" for a female fan.
On to the concert. Cheap Trick was Ok, but just another of those "renovation" bands - nothing new. They stayed with the same thing they did 25 years ago, but they did get the crowd up and runnin'.
Then came Journey.
Had ear plugs on the ready for the blow out, but surprisingly it was quite tolerable. Neal used only 2 small amps as did Ross. I couldn't see Cain's set-up because of the "whale. We were 3rd row center so we mostly got the amps and not the sound system (it was an arched deal flown high - we were "under and between" - we didn't get the "mix" that most got.
Schon was Schon - technically perfect and worked the stage well. Deen could drive nails with those drumsticks - he's masterfully artfull at destroying drumheads. Cain was absolutely amazing on the keyboards, but was tentative on the guitar - constantly looking at Neal for cues. Ross was his usual - solid bass, but has fun. If you can catch his eye, you can have a conversation with him. I did. Arnel - he's learned to work the stage (except for knocking over the mic and killing it), but the guy can handle the songs and has the passion that will take him wherever he wants to go. By the way, got there early and listened to the "rehearsal/sound check" for about an hour - seems like there might be more to come......old/new?

Hi nashville_barn,

Of all the reviewrs we've came across so far since Journey hit the road, you've got the best, most sensible hearing to measure the octable or decible level of each singer beyond measure of any technical measuring equipment. That makes you the best reviewer so far in my dad and myself's opinion.

We can't wait to hear them play here right on Journey's hometown !!!!!

dali, dad and family

Hey Jimmy Paducah -

"ex Dirt Band".....I kind of vaguely remeber that name......personally, could not name a song you did....nonetheless, thank you for your technical review. ( and I'm a complete music head / afficinado ).

As a Nashville native, and friend / business associate/ and mostly a long time fan of / and to a couple of members of both bands.......

I forewent the M&G....I grew up being around music here in Nashville...so for me, that "kinda shit don't impress me much" ...Brenda Lee is my godmother. That being said, your technical review of the concert, while borderline enlightening, was somewhat disconcerting. I was thrown off by your being, perceivedly, more concerned about the back stage comings and goings...than with the actual music....I was third row w/ two of my nephews.....all of us were elated...with both the performances of Cheap Trick and Journey.

I am a Nashville native....i'm also a Vandy grad. I have lived all over the world and speak German, Dutch and Swedish fluently.....i've seen both of these bands in each of those countries..and I know how both of these bands are revered / received in those locations. That being said, last night, in my opinion, was stellar

And while I appreciate your opinion, it came across to me as more "about you" than the actual concert and performance of each of these bands that, obviously, are more in our collective minds/ consciense, than say...and dare I say this...." the Dirt Band."

Having grown up in Nashville, in the tony part of town, I've seen how "musician jealousy" can become very ugly. I would hope to think that I totally misread your review, and you were not imparting that.

With all due respect,

Greg Slonecker, M.B.A., Licesnsed Investment Advisor

Posts: 5 Here's my Nashville concert review:
The band was awesome, and like other posts the intro was spectacular. They were playing a rocking AC/DC song over the PA and the video board switched to the band in the lower arena hallway walking to the stage, just like in the Arrival 2001 DVD. Deen was banging the camera with his drum sticks as the applause rose and Neal hit it with his guitar. Yes kudos to who ever idea that was. Still get goosebumps remembering it.
My date was late, so i missed most of Cheap Trick. There highlight or lowlight was they threw a metallic CT marker board into the crowd and hit a young girl in the side of the head and hurt her. Or it could have been the idiot behind her who jumped up and elbowed her on the way down. Any way she was hurt pretty bad for a while, paramedics and everything. It happened 2 rows in front of me. Lawsuit? I though CT's sound was distorted and the spotlights from the stage shown right in our faces on the floor.
But i will admit i had a couple of their songs, dream police and surrender in my head friday.
Like Bonnie said earlier, the Journey boys looked happy and healthy. Ross (hair style awesome) back ground singing was great, Jon's piano suberb, Deeno drums outstanding, Neal guitar awesome. And of course Arnel, what a talent. The band really works together. He had on a Perry-esq jacket at the beginning but no tails. Switched to a Phillipino admiral stripes jacket at the end. My date asked me how did they find such a young lead singer and i told her he was 40, she was amazed. He has so much energy, and when the mic stand fell and the boom hit, it startled him. he staggered for a second. Also saw Neal go up on the drum stand next to Deen, never saw that before. Sound was mixed perfect at this show, cept for 'Chain reaction', kinda distorted, like some one cranked it up too loud. And near the end the video screen had too much red in it, just minor glitches.
Great show, worth the $500 i dropped down for tixs and rooms and drinks. As far as drunks go, none in our area. Three girls about 21 got sick near the end from mixed drinks and had to leave. It was impossible to get the $8.75 water down beer any way, lines so long. And I didn't care my debit card had a neg balance friday morning!
Last thing, whoever the girl in the polka dot spotted low cut blouse they kept showing on the big screen was, if your here, please tell us who you are. Your gorgeous!
I get to see them next Thursday in Jones Beach also, so can't wait......Will compare the two shows.
Later

I had heard all the talk about Arnel nailing the vocals, but after hearing him in person it is amazing. We he nailed Separate Ways you new he was ligit.

Great concert!!!!!!

We also attended the concert it was great! We took our 11 year old son and also drove about the same Distance as you. We were also amazed at the problems with drinking and people acting out of control. I just can't understand why someone would want to be that polluted to remember the best concert we have seen in a long time.

Regarding Paducah's review....i think whatever he says, it still a review. Positive or negative it remains a review. That is how he describe the show and it's got to be respected. We loved and rocked the show it's because that was how we feel about the show. If i don't like ice cream doesn't mean everybody should hate it.

That is how i see it. Ciao.

I agree. We don't need "A King's Wardrobe" syndrome. Just tell it like it is. We need positive criticisms too so that the band can improve.

Greg, did you grow up in First Church of the Nazarene on Woodland St.? If so, I knew you & your family way back then. I hope you're not who I think you are because I find your comments to Jimmy Paducha a bit harsh and unkind.

All the best,

As someone else noted, I enjoyed this show much more than I did the 2006 performance at Starwood. JSS was OK, but the band as a whole in 2006 seemed really bored and, in Neal's case, pissed off most of the night. Not so this time. The whole band seemed re-energized and having a great time.

I saw only a few empty seats in the lower arena. The upper two levels seemed to be about 50% full on the sides. I was, frankly, surprised how many people were there, and I don't think the numbers could be seen as disappointing in any way.
